A Little Theme Music...

Same old same old here. Not much up. Work is getting better still. Doing a lot more work, but I still have time to keep you up to speed.

Current obsessions...

It's soooooooo good! It's going directly to my ring tone. It's been on the top of my list for the past week.

I don't know what I like about this one. I think the don't stress part. It's just catchy. And lastly...

Thank you Sirius Hits 1 for making my new playlist!

Getting Better All the Time

Work's getting better. Getting more and more used to what's going on and how it's done. The awkwardness is wearing off.

My mom left today. It was a weird feeling initially. Almost like being stuck without escape (which I know in today's world is far from true). It'll just take some getting used to, not having anyone I've known any amount of time immediately available.

Still setting up the apartment. Looking forward to getting that done by this weekend and doing some relaxing. I thought about it and really I've been moving for almost a month straight now. Early May getting out of the dorm, moving to Crawford, moving out of Crawford a week later, moving home, moving out of home less than a week later, long trip to California, into a motel, and finally into the apartment and there is still some stuff left in the van that needs to come in still. I'm done moving for a while.

That aside, this from Perez made me laugh. I figured Perez might be a little old for the Moseley, but who knows. Good pic though...(they are a little close, hmm)

I need to get used to this time change thing soon.

The Awkwardness Continues...

For those that may care about my daily goings-ons. It's been interesting. Work is exciting and fun. I hope to really get my hands dirty with it soon.

Tonight is election night in Cali plus all this news on the Democratic race [see The Daily Wire]. Between doing stuff for work and my blog, I've been keeping busy as opposed to yesterday.

My mum leave tomorrow morning for home. The realization of being here, in the real world, 28 hours away (driving), semi-alone, is hitting. Kind of claustrophobic.

Good news, I have Verizon now, so I can phone chat again! That's a plus! Additionally I have internet in my apartment starting Friday, so that'll help me keep in touch too.

I think that's all for now. I'll keep you up to date.

First Days...

I really hate the first day of any job. One word...awkward.

It went well though. I had fun. We'll see what tomorrow brings when I start nightside shift.

4 Days Later...

Ok, so I've arrived in beautiful Redding, California and has it been a long trip or what? Nobody likes to hear every detail, so here are the highlights (both the good and bad) of my life traveling across the west.

Day 1
Left home a little later than I wanted and in doing so, didn't make it as far as I wanted. Lots of rain all across Iowa. Made it into Nebraska and pushed it all the way to Grand Island. A very rainy, drab, and boring day. Mental notes: don't live west of Des Moines in Iowa, don't live west of Lincoln in Nebraska. There ain't nothin' there. The most excitement was seeing a Wienermobile and a Tornado Research team (guess they were in the right place and glad we got through when we did)

Day 2
Guess what? More driving and more rain. Rest of Nebraska (the state that never ends) and Wyoming. Additional mental note: Never live in Wyoming. It was pretty...well, the western part was. It was until the damn mountains did their best to crap on us. Only moments after telling Interstate 80 to end it soon and with only 5 miles left...the transmission overheated and we were stuck in "lovely" Evanston, Wyoming. Early end to the day about 300 miles from our ultimate goal. I couldn't have been more pleased.

Day 3
Started the first few hours in the waiting room of a car dealership as the car was checked out. After the fix, started out late again. Good riddence Wyoming. Made it to Salt Lake City and straight into the salt flats. Rain even in the desert, go figure. The salt flats were beautiful though they taste bad in case you wondered. Made it into Nevada which apparently has only 2 large towns: Reno and Vegas. Needless to say it was another state that never ends. Boring. But after many hours we arrived in Reno. Ate in the Silver Legacy casino. The town is like a really crappy Las Vegas. Three words: tow truck convention. Additional additional mental notes: Take a job in Salt Lake City if ever offered one, NEVER EVER live in Nevada unless it's Vegas, some states are way too big, and it rains a lot even in the desert.

Day 4
Really early morning. Got into California and headed to Sacramento. Took I-5 north to Redding. Arrive about 12:30. Thank God. Beautiful place and now I just need an apartment. Let's hope that happens soon. This concludes our 2,050 mile, 4 day, 5 out of 6 state capitols trip to my new home. At least it was educational, eh?

Summary: When it rains, it pours (a whole lot) and states over 300 miles wide suck (oh, and so do transmissions).

Night Before a New Chapter

It's the night before I leave and start the new chapter in my life. Before I start a new life in California. It's bittersweet as many things in life are. It will be hard leaving everything behind. Family, friends, and a life I've had for 22 years. Before leaving for good, here are a few things I'll miss about this place I've grown to know so well...

  • The perfect summer nights.
  • Clear skies full of stars.
  • Iowa hospitality.
  • Being in the middle of the United States.
  • Soft green grass.
  • June bugs.
  • Lightening bugs.
  • Scott County Park.
  • The Mississippi River.
  • Rolling farmland.
  • Whitey's Icecream.
  • Snow days.
  • Raking leaves.
  • Front yards and backyards.
  • Neighbors.
  • The capital building.
  • Drake University.
  • Des Moines' Farmer's Market.
  • The World's Largest Truckstop.
  • An Iowa education.
  • The goldfinch, wild rose, oak tree, and geode.
  • Summer storms.
  • Tornadoes.
  • Going on walks through the neighborhood.
  • The small town and small town feel.
  • Having people know me most place I go.
  • Morel mushrooms.
  • Fresh Iowa corn on the cob.
  • People making fun of my home state for the things I love about it.
  • Everything Iowa had given me.

Thanks Iowa for everything as a grew up through and in you. I'll be back, but for now, the start of a new chapter.
