Ok, so I've arrived in beautiful Redding, California and has it been a long trip or what? Nobody likes to hear every detail, so here are the highlights (both the good and bad) of my life traveling across the west.
Day 1
Left home a little later than I wanted and in doing so, didn't make it as far as I wanted. Lots of rain all across Iowa. Made it into Nebraska and pushed it all the way to Grand Island. A very rainy, drab, and boring day. Mental notes: don't live west of Des Moines in Iowa, don't live west of Lincoln in Nebraska. There ain't nothin' there. The most excitement was seeing a Wienermobile and a Tornado Research team (guess they were in the right place and glad we got through when we did)
Day 2
Guess what? More driving and more rain. Rest of Nebraska (the state that never ends) and Wyoming. Additional mental note: Never live in Wyoming. It was pretty...well, the western part was. It was until the damn mountains did their best to crap on us. Only moments after telling Interstate 80 to end it soon and with only 5 miles left...the transmission overheated and we were stuck in "lovely" Evanston, Wyoming. Early end to the day about 300 miles from our ultimate goal. I couldn't have been more pleased.
Day 3
Started the first few hours in the waiting room of a car dealership as the car was checked out. After the fix, started out late again. Good riddence Wyoming. Made it to Salt Lake City and straight into the salt flats. Rain even in the desert, go figure. The salt flats were beautiful though they taste bad in case you wondered. Made it into Nevada which apparently has only 2 large towns: Reno and Vegas. Needless to say it was another state that never ends. Boring. But after many hours we arrived in Reno. Ate in the Silver Legacy casino. The town is like a really crappy Las Vegas. Three words: tow truck convention. Additional additional mental notes: Take a job in Salt Lake City if ever offered one, NEVER EVER live in Nevada unless it's Vegas, some states are way too big, and it rains a lot even in the desert.
Day 4
Really early morning. Got into California and headed to Sacramento. Took I-5 north to Redding. Arrive about 12:30. Thank God. Beautiful place and now I just need an apartment. Let's hope that happens soon. This concludes our 2,050 mile, 4 day, 5 out of 6 state capitols trip to my new home. At least it was educational, eh?
Summary: When it rains, it pours (a whole lot) and states over 300 miles wide suck (oh, and so do transmissions).
